In the past 2 years I’ve realized that if you
have the determination, desire and selfbelief you can bring things back from the
darkest places. Two years ago I made
the bold decision to quit my job, leave my
family back home in Cornwall, and again,
do what so many kitesurfers do and chase
the wind around the world.
So at very short notice I boarded a flight to
Perth, Western Australia. I had friends that
were already there for the season. Their
help and support before and throughout
my trip was tremendous and I will never
be able to thank them enough for that.
It’s weird how life throws up little hints
that something is not right. Travelling to
the airport was terrible, Mother Nature
had decided that on this particular day,
up-rooted trees and severe flooding
caused by torrential rain and gale force
winds would make my journey more
difficult. On finally getting to the airport
my board bag, which to me was the only
essential thing I needed to take was 6Kg‘s
overweight, so I was made to pay £190
and split my board bag into another bag.
I then sat on the Emirates A380 for over
two hours waiting for my flight to finally
take off - I thought that airlines would
take into account connecting flights when
these delays occurred, but evidently not.
I arrived into Dubai and was booked into
a hotel, as I had missed my connection
and now had to wait 24 hours for the next
available flight onto Perth. This could
