Kiosks as a Data Source
"Kiosk Management is a vital
component to many deployments,
and it can add extensive value"
on mortgages, business loans, and/
or current account questions. In this
example, the banking kiosks can be used
to determine what time of the day is the
busiest for each type of activity, or when
a second (or third) kiosk should be added
because of the constant traffic and usage
activity on the original kiosk.
Data can be reported on the pages
viewed within the kiosk application, the
number of user sessions on the kiosk, the
length of time each person takes, and/or
the time of day the kiosks are being most
heavily used. Comparisons can be made
across promotional offers, kiosk locations,
and more.
With the attention that's currently
paid to data-driven decision-making,

spending, and results, the ability to
obtain clear and consistent kiosk data
across time is of significant value. When
looking at kiosk management options,
the reporting function can be invaluable
outside of the initial kiosk project group
and can be used by marketing, business
development and other strategic depart-
ments, as well.
Updating kiosk content &
configuration
In the first example at the start of this
article, retail kiosks are deployed in
groupings with the need to customise
content and configuration based on
group identity and/or other properties.
One of the most important kiosk
4
management features to consider is
the ability to update content remotely.
Kiosk management tools typically allow
deployers to update attract screens at
will, and in groups. This feature is great for
weekly ad updates, changing ads because
of limited inventory, modifying pricing as
needed and more. Videos, images, and
other files can be updated remotely and
either pushed to the kiosk or retrieved
by the kiosk at a set time – upon store
closing, for instance.
In addition to content updating,
it’s important that kiosk management
features include the ability to remotely
update the configuration file on the kiosk.
This can be useful if store hours change
and the kiosk needs to be set to shut
down at a different time, or if a website
needs to be added to the allow-list on
the fly. Other settings that are helpful
to update remotely include things like
session end time, toolbar controls, pop
up window management, and more. It’s
important to be able to change the kiosk
configuration at will, then push, or pull,
the updates when the kiosks aren’t in
use. This means technical team members
aren’t sitting at their computers waiting
for an unoccupied window or working
feverishly at night in order to make sure
the kiosks are updated by morning.
Technical changes can be made when
needed and pulled in by the kiosk on
schedule as often as desired.
Kiosk management is a vital
component to many kiosk deployments,
and it can add extensive value and
informative information to the kiosk
project specifically, and the organisation
in general. When researching kiosk
management options, look for these
features and know they are the key to a
successful kiosk deployment. n
