content creation Drive engagement Five tips for boosting engagement by creating the right digital content for your kiosks and your customers... By Acante – www.acante.co.uk Interactive kiosks are a great way to connect with your audience – but without engaging content, it’ll be a lot more difficult to do that. Creating appealing, targeted digital content for kiosks is your opportunity to drive interest in your brand, so don’t let it go to waste. As digital technologies become more advanced, so do the possibilities for the content we create. We can now take advantage of vivid LED screens and state of the art animation to produce content that is vibrant, lively and striking. Designing digital content for kiosks isn’t an exact science, but there are certain things you can do to give your content the best chance of engaging your audience and these tips should set you on the right path: Know your objective How can you connect with your audience if you don’t know what you’re trying to say? The first step in creating any digital content for kiosks should be to work out what you’re trying to achieve with it. Once you’ve identified 1 your objective, you’ll be able to design a strategy and make decisions about the tone of the content. Research your audience Again, how can you make content that engages people if you don’t know who those people are? Once you’ve worked out your objective, the next step is to identify your target audience and research, research, research. You need to know who your audience is, what they want and how they like to communicate. You can then design your content accordingly, in a way that will appeal to those people. 2 Consider attention span The amount of time people spend looking at kiosks will vary depending on various factors, such as the location of the kiosks. While it’s impossible to predict exactly how long you’ll hold a viewer’s attention, most marketers agree you have just a matter of seconds to get your message across. To make sure your content achieves what it needs to, convey your most 3 important message within the first five seconds. Once you’ve reeled people in with the best bits, you’ll have a bit more time to play with. Play with contrast Digital content for kiosks should be instantly readable. To help with this, use contrasting colours for text and background. This is one of the single biggest factors in readability. If you use brightly coloured text on a colourful background, the text is likely to get lost. Light text against a dark background, or vice versa, will give the best results and should ensure your text is legible from a distance. 4 Strike a balance A picture is worth a thousand words – or so the old saying goes. Whether or not that’s statistically accurate, the point is valid – you can communicate a great deal with an image. People process visuals much faster than text, so if you can make your point with an image or icon rather than text, do it. n 5 KIOSK solutions 29
