Towards a cashless society

The benefits of engaging the unattended kiosk consumer in the cashless payment market
By Lewis Zimbler , Operations Director , Nayax UK – www . nayax . com
Cashless payment is growing across markets and people around the world are willingly adapting to it . In Europe , credit cards are the dominant payment method while Canada , Australia , Japan , and South Korea all have high rates of adoption . Cashless payments are also gaining momentum in South Africa , Kenya , China , Russia and Brazil .
With the growth in NFC , QR codes , chip cards , contactless payments , and mobile apps as payment methods , the future seems cashless . As customers become more acclimatised to a variety of payment methods , they ’ ll come to expect multiple methods to be available to them at all points of sale . The customer will seek a seamless experience , opting for the easiest and quickest payment method at their disposal .
As more services and products are sold through unattended kiosks , the business providing the service can become removed from the end consumer . However , technology can also be used to address the distance it creates . Installing a cashless payment system grants operators access to consumer engagement capabilities . The use of telemetry devices and remote management software also gives operators access to unique insights into their business and end-users . Armed with information about consumer behaviour , operators can determine the best ways to optimise sales , improve operational processes and engage consumers .
Relationship building Bricks and mortar stores have multiple ways of engaging and getting to know their clientele . Completing a transaction without the assistance of a person removes the opportunity for relationship building in the traditional sense . Therefore , unlike attended markets , service providers of unattended markets need to be creative in the ways they spark loyalty and repeat business . Fortunately , with a cashless payment and management system , consumer engagement can be managed remotely , and campaigns can be overseen from the back end of unattended machines .
