NEW TEACHER INDUCTION 2016

KWETB hosted a post primary teacher’s Induction Day on the 12th October in the Glenview Hotel , Wicklow. Over 80 teachers attended on the day and it is fair to say they were a great group. After a tot up we calculated that between all of them our new teachers have come to KWETB with over 160 years’ teaching experience, we are lucky!

Rory O’Toole, Director of Schools, welcomed staff and presented an overview of KWETB (did you know we have over 2,600 employees, over 22,000 students and turnover €110 million each year?)

Conor Power, Teacher St. Kevin’s CC, Dunlavin presented Hints and Tips for New Teachers. Thank you to Conor and to his principal Catherine Burke for their support. Conor was the musical director for the school musical Bugsy Malone on the same day so we were delighted that he was able to come and present.

Áine O’Sullivan, Employee Relations and Jayne Hogarty, Human Resources, supported by the wider HR Team provided an overview of terms and conditions of employment, payroll and pensions for staff. Áine also launched the Teaching Staff Handbook 2016/2017 which has been created to provide information on KWETB as well as an up-to-date synopsis of conditions of appointment, employment, expectations of staff, employment policies, procedures and entitlements. This handbook will be made available to principals and coordinators in soft copy and can be issued on request from the HR Department.

Ciaran Keegan, Principal , Naas CC, then facilitated energetic discussions on Professional Practice, Dealing with Challenging Situations and Career Development paths for staff. Pamela Lennon, ICT Department, provided a brief overview of the ICT facilities available to all KWETB students and staff with practical examples of their best application to enhance teaching and learning within the school environment.
