Maynooth Education Campus

embraced inclusion with a new member of staff this year, James Cawley,

teacher of Geography.

James suffers from Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC), a condition that has confined him to a wheelchair. His parents were given the devastating news that James would never write , yet now he is a teacher successfully educating future generations. His attitude is to focus on a person’s ability as we all have different abilities, rather than just their disability.

James came to prominence over the summer when he fronted a social media campaign to draw attention to AMC at national level. He started a successful disability awareness campaign online, being photographed with famous faces to draw attention to the condition including Minister of State, Finian MC Grath and being interviewed by national broadcasters, Ryan Tubridy and Ray Darcy.

His determination and resilience should be an inspiration to us all as he has proven beyond doubt how you can succeed in education, employment and life.

We wish him the very best in his teaching career in to the future.
