National Careers Competition 2016
Arklow Youthreach was delighted to announce their participation in the National Careers Competition 2016. Several entries were brought forth for this year’s competition from the centre and one of the entries received 4th place in the further education and training sector from among the 1, 500 finalists that entered. The competition is in its 8th year of running, however it is only in its 2nd year for entries from the FET sector to be included. The department was represented by Breda Naughton and she acknowledged the importance of the FET sector and the major role it plays in the education and further employment options of adults.
Kayleigh Bolton completed her work placement as part of the work experience module in Arklow Youthreach. She was awarded with a Samsung tablet and an engraved clock at a presentation in the Clock Tower at the Department of Education and Skills in Dublin on Tuesday the 10th of May 2016. Kayleigh was accompanied by her work experience tutor Michelle Greene, Career Advocate Angela Glynn and other staff and students of Arklow Youthreach.
The awards recognise students who complete career investigations into their chosen area of interest and help equip guidance councillors with information in the area of career skills. Each student must demonstrate their understanding of a chosen career, the educational pathways that lead to it, the most relevant knowledge requirements and the most important transferable skills needed to be successful.
It was a great accomplishment for Kayleigh and it was an enjoyable day for all!
