Intel supports 21st Century Learning @ Glenart College, Arklow

The introduction of New Junior Cycle Programme is well underway at Glenart College with current first years participating in the new English syllabus. Some of the first years are also lucky enough to be amongst the first second level students in the country studying computer coding for their Junior Certificate.

Glenart College is among only 20 schools nationwide that have been chosen to introduce this new subject to the curriculum. Intel have invested $66000 into this programme with the donation of 40 Gallileo Gen 2 Boards to each school.

Teachers Gwen Campbell and Seamus Madigan have attended training for this new subject in UL in January and on Saturday 6th of February at Intels facility in Leixlip where they accepted the generous donation of equipment from Intel.

Paul Phelan, Intel Ireland introduced the teachers present to what Intel do and gave them a tour of the facility. Philip Moynagh, Intel Ireland introduced them to Intels Quark X1000 processor which powers the Gallileo boards and demonstrated the possibilities that it can introduce second level students to.

This equipment will enable the full roll out of Computer Coding as a subject over the next year with the current first years receiving recognition of this in their Junior Certificate.
