Green Light for Coláiste Ráithín Development

Glenart College

September 2015 7

Coláiste Ráithín have received planning permission for their new school on the old golf course lands in Bray from Wicklow County Council. The permission granted by the Wicklow authority is for a 450 pupil, two storey post primary school, including PE Hall, play courts, playing pitches and parking.

It has been more than 20 years since the parents association of Coláiste Ráithín began seeking a new building, with staff and parents campaigning since 1994. The school is currently on two separate sites in Bray town centre, with 50 per cent of their accommodation in portacabins. There are few recreational and no sports facilities. They marched to the Dáil in 2012 to express their dissatisfaction that no plans were afoot to provide one.

This is fantastic news for KWETB and the community in Bray with building work set to commence in 2016. Congratulations to the Board of Management, parents, teachers and pupils concerned.

The new school building will facilitate up to 710 students in this state of the art facility. KWETB wishes to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of all those involved in bringing this project into realisation. It has been a long but worthwhile road.
