121 Digital in Wicklow Youthreach

On Wednesday 4th March, Wicklow Youthreach started a six week course called 121 digital. Learners were taught how to use their laptop, smartphone, or tablet. The course is free of charge to adult learners in the community.

It was held in Wicklow Further Education Centre based at The Murrough Wicklow Town. Each person was assigned to a learner and there was a mix of males and females which was good to see. The devices the learners brought in were iPads, tablets, iPhones, smartphones and laptops.

Learners wanted to find out how to complete a broad range of tasks on their device. Some wanted to complete basic functions such as sending a text message or getting on the internet.

Others wanted to setup an eBay account or an apple account which was difficult

to teach because they found it hard to understand what was on the screen, such as setting up the billing information.

All of the learners and tutors really enjoyed the 121 Digital for the full six weeks. It was also really good to mix with the learners. They said that they would love to come back again and they were full of praise for us and also said that we had really good patience because it isn’t easy teaching the same things every week.

In February, catering students and staff from Youthreach Leixlip attended the CATEX Food Service Event in the RDS Dublin. Everyone enjoyed their day out sampling the food and taking in the culinary creations.
