On Tuesday 12th September, President Michael D Higgins hosted a wonderful reception for learners and tutors from Adult Learning Centres around the country at Áras an Uachtaráin. Representing KWETB were students Lee Mitchell, Tanya Byrne and Liz Corkish and Adult Literacy Organiser Niamh Maguire. President Higgins is the Patron of the National Adult Literacy Agency and the event was organised to mark Adult Literacy Awareness week.

All of those present have participated in events promoting adult learning and encouraging others to take the first step back to education. President Higgins welcomed the group to the Áras and congratulated the students for their commitment and courage both in returning to education and in supporting others to do the same. President Higgins told the group that reading is fundamental to our independence and sense of well-being, it clears our thoughts and widens our perspective.

It was a very special occasion that Lee, Tanya, Liz and Niamh will remember for many years to come!
