KWETB recently announced the opening of their new, cutting edge training facility, Marine House in Wicklow Town. Marine House is a Centre of Excellence for the Hospitality and Catering industry and provides training courses for learners looking to develop their skills in the culinary and hospitality sectors.

Bars, restaurants, and especially tourist hot-spots, experienced huge growth in 2016, which has created confidence for continued growth in 2017 and into the future. As the sectors grow, so does the demand for relevant skills, which includes anything from bartending to the culinary arts. However, many people still have difficulty finding work in these industries as “experience required” is sometimes a stop sign for those wishing to take their first steps.

Eileen Cullen, Training Services Manager with KWETB, said “Marine House has undergone an extreme and extensive makeover and is now a customised centre of excellence, which will fulfill the requirements of clients looking to engage in training”.  To date, Marine House has run a variety of successful courses which include Introduction to Hospitality, Barista & Café Skills and Culinary Skills. These courses provide the perfect intensive training designed to guide learners in the multiple aspects of the hospitality industry, and cover everything from food safety to customer service.

Marine House offers eight comprehensive courses in the fields of bar service, culinary skills, national tour guiding, food science, barista and café skills, a traineeship in hospitality, and accommodation operations and housekeeping services. Marine House is nestled among the bustle and buzz of Wicklow Town's thriving restaurants, bars, and historical sites - making it the perfect location in which to develop the skills necessary to achieve success. Virtually every corner of the industry is represented at Marine House and their associated skills are on offer.

Going forward, KWETB will be running a variety of different training courses such as a Bar Service Skills course and a Career Traineeship in Hospitality which will be based in Marine House and run in partnership with hoteliers such as Tinakilly House Hotel. There will also be a Commis Chef Apprenticeship starting in January 2018. KWETB Training Services have partnered with API College in Italy and will be running a pizza dough course for chefs on 6th November in Marine House.
