Friday, 15th September at 3pm saw the Grand Finale of the partnership between The Blessington Adult Learning Centre and Blessington Library conclude as they celebrated Literacy Awareness Week. The event started with Johnny Carroll reading a few poems, one of which he had specially written for the occasion about returning to education. Gaelscoil children (the Intermediate Group) provided some lively music for the occasion. This group of musicians are supported through The Music Generation programme. The afternoon concluded with tea and treats.

The week saw a lot of activities taking place with two and three talks in the library each day. KWETB provided talks about education, training and guidance opportunities available in the West Wicklow area. KWETB also provided talks on ‘How to Support the Reluctant Reader’ and also a very relevant talk on ‘ Internet Safety’. There was also talks from The Citizens Information Service and The Library Service held a number of talks focusing on reading with your child and how to encourage your child to read including the benefits and enjoyment of reading with your child.

All in all a great local collaboration to bring to the fore, community awareness of Literacy.
