The transition into dancing en pointe for an aspiring young ballerina is one of the most exciting and memorable moments of their careers .
Years of training , dedication , time and money lead up to this important milestone and a thorough pre-pointe assessment by a qualified health professional with experience with ballet dancers is key to deciding if your child is ready to dance en pointe .
At True Pilates & Sports Podiatry Central Coast we love working with passionate dancers , their dedicated parents and our outstanding dance teachers on the Central Coast who value health and the importance of correct technique and biomechanics and we have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide your child with a clinical and personal perspective aimed at supporting their long-term wellbeing and development as a dancer .
Victoria Gilbert-Smith is a registered podiatrist with extensive experience in dance and the Pilates method . Victoria trained as a professional ballet dancer with the prestigious Australian Ballet School in Melbourne and performed with the Australian Ballet Dancers Company and French contemporary dance Compagnie Pointe Six in Nantes . She has also taught classical ballet and contemporary dance for L ’ Academie de Danse de Mireille Marchandou in Brittany , Paris and then back home in Sydney and on the Central Coast including twelve years as resident Pilates teacher with Naisda Dance College in Kariong .
Victoria is a qualified Pilates teacher of many years having completed a Diploma in Professional Pilates Practice and the rigorous internationally recognised classical Pilates accreditation “ Romana ’ s Pilates Certification ”.
Victoria is now the owner of True Pilates & Sports Podiatry Central Coast in Erina and provides comprehensive podiatry consultations and pre-pointe assessments for dancers of all ages and levels along with private tuition in the classical Pilates method for dancers and also non-dancers of all ages .
All pre-pointe assessments are one hour long and include biomechanical and dance specific functional testing including pointe range of motion , foot strength and control , turnout range , core stability and ballet specific positions and steps . A review of this assessment is sent to your dance teacher and will be discussed with both you and your child . Additionally individual strengthening and stretching exercise programs will be prescribed along with injury prevention advice to assist in empowering your young dancer with the tools and knowledge to look after their bodies and achieve their dancing dreams .
