You can now take a peek inside the wonderful world of Kindergarten at Central Coast Grammar School following the launch of an Instagram page designed especially for first-time Kindy parents. You can meet the teachers and hear their tips and advice to help support and inform parents as they begin the transition from preschool. A series of eight videos on topics such as ‘Learning in Kindy’ and ‘Advice for New Parents’ are available, along with specific meet the teacher segments where you can hear first-hand from Kindergarten teachers about their experiences in the classroom. Here’s a snapshot of what you can find on the CCGS Kindy Instagram page: Advice for Kindy parents Feeling a little apprehensive before you child starts school is completely normal. “Parents being worried about their children starting school is something that comes up all the time…the advice I’d give first-time parents is to relax – it’s going to be ok. Put your faith in the teachers and the school that you’ve chosen and put your faith in your child that they will thrive,” Mrs Gray, Kindergarten teacher. “Try not to worry. Children are excellent at adapting to their environments…it’s part of their growth and their learning,” Mrs Mac, Kindergarten teacher. School readiness Ensuring your child is developmentally ready is the most important thing. “Children don’t need to know many of the things parents may think they need to before starting school. Leave that to the teachers – we’re here to help them learn to read and write. Your job is to get your child developmentally ready for school,” Mrs Mac, Kindergarten teacher. Beyond the classroom Co-curricular activities are an integral part of a well-rounded education. “There are so many studies now that show the importance of music education backing up numeracy and literacy. It helps reinforce the academic way the brain works, engaging both the left and right side of the brain…Kindy’s come to music just exploding with joy!” Mrs Hatfield, specialist Music teacher. “Physical education is so important. It teaches children the knowledge, the skills and the right attitude to be able to move, play and have a go. The more time they can spend with trained coaches the better.” Mr Mac, specialist Physical Education teacher. What do Kindy kids think of being in Kindergarten? Kindy kids will make you smile as they talk about the best bits of Kindergarten. “I like art because it’s fun and you can use your big imagination.” “I like to be in Kindergarten at school because the teachers make everything fun for all the Kindy classes. Even if we don’t want to do it, they still give us a reason to try it!” Want to see more?
