Sure Eye Care What are “Magic Eyes”? Imagine the freedom of ƒ ƒ Excelling at sport and exercise without glasses ƒ ƒ Swimming and water activities without contact lenses ƒ ƒ Great vision without surgery. What is orthokeratology or orthoK? Orthokeratology is a safe non-surgical process. Special lenses gently reshape the front of your eye while you sleep. You remove the lenses on waking. The result is clear vision all day, without glasses or contact lenses. Many patients describe the procedure as magic. So, we figured “Magic Eyes” would be easier to remember than orthokeratology. Who can have “Magic Eyes”? OrthoK has been available for over 20 years but was at first only for mildly short-sighted people. Now it's available for: ƒ ƒ Short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism ƒ ƒ “Long arm syndrome” (blurry near vision after age 45) ƒ ƒ All ages, including children and teenagers ƒ ƒ Those unable to wear daytime contact lenses due to allergies or dry eye ƒ ƒ Active people who do not want the inconvenience of glasses or contact lenses when participating in sports ƒ ƒ Those who like the idea of LASIK but are afraid of surgery Myopia Control Myopia (short-sightedness) starts at an early age and brings with it the odds of other eye health problems. It increases the risk of blindness and vision loss due to myopic maculopathy, retinal detachment, glaucoma and cataracts Studies have also shown that orthoK may stop or slow down myopia (short- sightedness). The official name for preventing and slowing myopia is Myopia Control. For youngsters that need stronger glasses every visit, the chance to limit further worsening is an exciting option. All children/teens need an eye examination annually and more often if they're at high risk of developing myopia. Can orthoK be used by Children? Children make great orthoK lens wearers. Children are very motivated and follow instructions well. They learn how to handle and care for orthoK lenses very quickly. The orthoK lenses are inserted just before going to bed and taken out in the morning. This means that children will not need to handle their lenses during the day or at school. No more worrying about broken glasses or lost contact lenses. Would you like to learn more about this amazing procedure? We invite you to visit www.sureok.com.au.
