KICA Purchases Municipal Center Facility

In March 2016 , KICA offered to purchase the existing Town Hall site on Beachwalker Drive for $ 1.575 million . The Kiawah Island Town Council voted unanimously to accept the offer , and the sale was closed and finalized in the fall of 2016 .
The town built the existing facility in 1996 and the association has leased and occupied half of the building for its administrative operations since early 1997 . The town intends to use the proceeds from this sale exclusively toward the construction of its new Municipal Center .
In a joint statement , Mayor Charlie Lipuma and then-KICA Board of Directors Chair Dave Schoenholz hailed the agreement as a “ win-win ” for the community . Both KICA and the town had the property independently appraised . The two groups then worked together with both appraisers to reconcile differences in various assumptions and to agree to a fair price .
KICA and the town will continue to be neighbors at the Beachwalker Drive facility until completion of the new Municipal Center . Construction on the facility , which is being designed as a “ Gateway to Kiawah ,” began in mid 2016 and is expected to be complete by summer 2017 .
