KICA Amenities: Reinvesting in Kiawah
Member Input Guides Framework for Future Amenities
KICA has spent nearly a decade planning for possible amenity improvements and obtaining community input. Throughout 2014, the
board communicated with the membership via Digest, the website and eblasts. In the spring and summer, the board held open forums
and surveyed the membership on concepts. The response rate for the survey was over 50%, the highest in KICA’s history. In the fall, the
survey results were sent to all members. With thoughtful consideration of project components and associated costs that the membership
supported and did not support, the board assembled an “internal planning commission.” This group of experts advised on land planning,
multi-modal traffic engineering, environmental impact and legal considerations. This process resulted in a unanimous Jan. 12, 2015
board vote authorizing the development of an amenities proposal for a membership vote in spring 2015. The elements of the proposal
will include an improved pool and beach experience at the Sandcastle and a new community clubhouse at KICA’s Rhett’s Bluff property.
