18 Kiawah Cares - Expressions of Gratitude KC sends a heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, donors, sponsors and partners who helped make this year better for our island neighbors. The response that KC has received for a number of programs has been overwhelming. You are truly making a difference in our Sea Islands community. Communities In Schools In December 2013, Communities In Schools (CIS) Charleston launched a fundraising campaign to support local dropout prevention programs. CIS received a pledge from an anonymous Kiawah couple who promised to match any donation up to $100,000 during 2014. Thanks to the generosity of the community, CIS raised $102,585. By meeting the Dec. 31 deadline, CIS received the additional $100,000 from the Kiawah couple. The monies raised will help CIS sustain and strengthen its program throughout the community and will give students the tools and support they need to succeed. Thank you to the match donor and everyone who helped them meet their match. The Budnick Family The Budnick Family donated the photography collection of their late sister, Susan Budnick. Susan was a long-time Kiawah resident and a very talented photographer. Her love of the Sea Islands will continue through this gift, known as the Budnick Family Collection. Thank You Budnick Family! Seabrook Island Through their Seabrook Shares program, Seabrook Island partnered with Kiawah Cares to collect health, hygiene and warm clothing items from August - November. Thank You Seabrook Island! Testimonials My kids were really moved by the letters to Santa from the Angel Oak and Frierson school children, especially the one from the little girl who asked for “love.” My kids can’t imagine needing to ask for a pillow or blanket for Christmas, either, so this was really eye-opening for them, more so than dropping off random toys at a collection site. One of my kids offered to clean out his savings account to make sure the boy had a great Christmas. Thank you for helping us make a difference. -Anne Nickerson, Kiawah Giving Tree Sponsor and KICA Member On behalf of the students, parents, faculty, and staff of Frierson Elementary, I cannot thank Kiawah Cares enough for their partnership this school year. Their love for our children and their families is truly evident with every donation, program, and service they provide. It is my job to fill the holes in these students’ lives, wherever they may be, and I cannot remember how the job was done befo
