18 Upcoming Events KICA Event Offerings for 2013 Kiawah Presents: Our World Our World is a complimentary educational lecture series that provides island residents with presentations by local experts on a wide variety of subjects. A light selection of wine and cheese will be provided and members are encouraged to interact with speakers following their discussions. Presentations occur on Thursdays at 3 p.m., and reservations are due the Monday prior to each presentation. The schedule is as follows: Feb. 7 - Dr. Sean Heuston, associate English professor at The Citadel, will present Misdirections and Roads Not Taken: Robert Frost as a Misleading Poet. Feb. 21 - Dr. Nicholas Butler - historian, musician and CPL archivist - will present George Gershwin’s Charleston Education. Feb. 28 - Marian Mazzone, chair of the College of Charleston’s Art History Department, will present Modern Art. March 7 - Dr. Keith Knapp, History professor and East Asia specialist at The Citadel, will present China: An Historic Perspective. March 21 - Dr. Guoli Liu, Political Science professor at the College of Charleston, will present China: A Present and Future Prospective. April 11 - Michael Wermuth, J.D., counterterrorism and homeland defense programs manager for RAND National Security Research Division, will present Homeland Security. April 18 - Dr. John Creed, Political Science Professor at the College of Charleston, will present The Arab Spring: Where Are We Now? April 25 - Our World/Photography Club Collaboration Educational Opportunities Each spring and fall the Sandcastle offers educational classes on a variety of topics. Opera Lite combines audio/visual presentations of operatic performances with historical and literary perspectives to provide an entertaining and informative view into the world of opera. Spanish lessons will appeal to those with mucha experiencia, as well as those with poca. Mah-Jongg and Bridge Lessons are available for those who enjoy card play, tile games, and friendly competition. Other educational opportunities will also be offered at various times throughout the year. Fees vary by class. Celebrate Kiawah This April, join your neighbors for light hors d’oeuvres, music, and socializing poolside at the Sandcastle. Details will be posted as they become available. Date: April 27
