The first POPS party for 2014-2015 will be Harvest Fest on Monday, Oct. 20 at The River Course Clubhouse. POPS will also host a Progressive Dinner in March, and a Spring Into Summer party on Monday, April 27 at The River Course Clubhouse. POPS began as an island-wide organization coordinated by homeowners, and dedicated to the sponsorship and promotion of social activities for association members. As the island has evolved, the groups are now operating independently, in conjunction with KICA’s hosting and promotion. POPS will continue to sponsor periodic social events. The only requirement for POPS membership is that you be a Kiawah property owner, and completion of a form detailing names, and mail/email addresses. The form will be available on the KICA website and may be downloaded, completed and emailed back. There are no dues or fees. For more information on POPS, visit kica.us, contact POPS at [email protected], or pick up information at the Sandcastle (1 Shipwatch Road) or the KICA Administrative office (23 Beachwalker Drive). 2014-2015 POPS Officers • Presidents - Shauneen and Bill Hutchinson • Vice Presidents - Katie and Jack Kotz • Membership - Nancy and Jay Smith POPS extends a special thank you to John and Linda Connolly, last year’s co-presidents of POPS, for their many hours of planning and organizing the 2013-2014 events. Their dedication and efforts were appreciated by all. POPS also thanks Frances and James Boyd for offering to co-chair the Progressive Dinner on a date to be determined in March 2015. All Kiawah Island property owners and long-term renters are welcome. The Invention of Wings is the perfect choice to kick off the season. Susan Monk Kidd is a best-selling author, and her historical novel is set in her hometown of Charleston during the 1830s. Two women, one white and one black, are caught up in the turmoil. Kidd’s ability to invoke universal themes is much in evidence, as noted by NPR Contributor Bobbi Dumas in her review, Finding Flight in The Invention of Wings. “The novel is a textured masterpiece, quietly yet powerfully poking our consciences and our consciousness. What does it mean to be a sister, a friend, a woman, an outcast, a slave? How do we use our talents to better ourselves and our world? How do we give voice to our power, or learn to empower our voice?” If you have questions about the Book Club, please contact Frances Boyd at [email protected] or Lynn Morgenstern at [email protected].
