3 October 2016 Pet Rescues Return to Kiawah for 10th Annual Dogtoberfest Saturday, Oct. 22 | 1 - 5 p.m. | Freshfields Village Story Highlights Bring your dog, sip some wine and help out local pet rescues at the 10th Dogtoberfest Returns to Freshfields annual Dogtoberfest: Dogs, Dine Saturday, Oct. 22, 1-5 p.m. and Wine Pet Expo. The event, which brings together pet rescue Proceeds benefit eight local pet organizations from around the rescue organizations Lowcountry, returns to Freshfields Village near Kiawah Island on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 1-5 p.m. In addition to meet-and-greets with local rescue groups and the annual wine tasting, this free event include: • Craft Beer and Delicious Food • Live entertainment • On-site vendors • Pet costume contest at 3 p.m. • Blessing of the animals • A commemorative wine glass • Exciting prizes and giveaways, and more! Proceeds from Dogtoberfest benefit the participating pet rescue organizations, including: Shih Tzus and Furbabies, Grateful Goldens Rescue, Greyhound Pets of America - Charleston, Carolina Coonhound Rescue, Pet Helpers, Water’s Edge Animal Rescue, Lowcountry Lab Rescue and King Charles Cavalier Spaniel Rescue. Dogtoberfest is hosted by the Kiawah Island Community Association and presented by the Charleston Animal Society. KICA Staff Efforts Accelerate TS Hermine Recovery Tropical Storm Hermine brought heavy rains and strong winds to Kiawah in early September. The storm moved one without significant, widespread damage, but it did litter the island with leaves, limbs, palm fronds and other debris. In the hours and days following, KICA staff worked tirelessly to clean up the island and bring it back to the state it was prior to the storm. I was amazed that by Sunday everything looked great!" In an email to staff, KICA COO Jimmy Bailey also commended their work recovering the island. "Every day I witness extraordinary commitment by individuals companywide," said Bailey. "However, when we're faced with an adverse situation such as TS Hermine (and the giant clean up that followed), my pride swells when I see the above and beyond effort displayed by so many."
