3 May 2014 KICA Governance (Continued from Previous) KICA Thrives Under New Model Since the model was reaffirmed and fully implemented over the past year, KICA managers and staff have been able to focus fully on association operations. This renewed focus has resulted in a number of major initiatives and projects such as Kiawah Cares, the Kiawah Shuttle Service by KICA, the KICA Amenities Plan (see back cover for important information on upcoming meetings), the West Beach Revitalization project, and much more. "I really applaud those who began this process nearly 10 years ago,” said KICA COO Jimmy Bailey. “They had the foresight to know that if progress was going to be made on the really big strategic issues, we couldn't have the board bogged down in day-to-day decisions. Not only does an empowered staff get things done more efficiently, it also provides much clearer accountability measures from the COO all the way down the line." While the evolution of the Policy Governance Model in KICA has been a long, involved process, the positive impact of the process on the association, property owners and Kiawah Island as a whole have made the hard work worthwhile.
