Eye on Kiawah: How One Family Connected Using Technology
In recent issues of Digest, we've talked in depth about how KICA's new communications services can help members get information faster, easier,
etc. They aren't just useful ways to get news and updates from the association though. They are also great ways to connect with Kiawah, no matter
where you are in the world.
Recently, Kiawah property owners Sam and Donna Bromage contacted KICA with their story about how one of the association's communication tools,
the Beach Cam, let their elderly father connect not just with Kiawah, but also their entire family.
Who would think KICA’S Beach Cam would give such pleasure connecting our family on
opposite coasts? For the past couple of years, my elderly father daily checked Kiawah’s weather
via the webcam from his computer at his Whidbey Island, WA home. In his 90s and unable to
travel, he got to “see” Kiawah’s beautiful beach views through the webcam eye. Every so often,
we’d schedule a rendezvous, too - he via his computer’s Sandcastle link, we as we approached
the Sandcastle on the beach or on the boardwalk in the webcam’s view, and both of us on our
cellphones. We’d animatedly talk about what he and we were seeing: from the tides changing
and dolphins dancing, to toddlers running and families playing…and so much more. Via the
webcam eye, my Dad was also able to see our visiting friends he hadn’t seen in 25 years, see
