Kiawah Island Digest July 2014 | Page 2

2 July 2014 Letter from the COO (Continued from Previous) Some argue that social media such as Facebook and Twitter have made email and websites old fashioned. While we’re not necessarily convinced of it, KICA’s social media presence has grown tremendously in the last couple of years. Our Facebook (facebook.com/ kiawahislandsc) and Twitter (twitter.com/kiawah_island) accounts are updated daily, and don’t just include KICA updates. We also share important information from news outlets and organizations around the Lowcountry that may be of interest to our property owners. KICA also has an Instagram account (instagram.com/kiawahislandsc). This is a great way to instantly put yourself on the island, no matter where in the world you are, with beautiful photos and video from around the island. out as efficiently and effectively as possible, KICA developed a mobile app. The app debuted in May and is available in the Apple “App Store” and in Google Play for Android devices. Features include onetouch calling to reach KICA, an interactive island map, quick views for news and events and much more. In the first month, more than 3,000 of you downloaded this free app, which tells us KICA members are technologically savvy. Several months ago KICA launched a Text Message Alert service. All members with a valid mobile phone number on file with KICA were subscribed, and users can unsubscribe if they choose (contact [email protected]). However, we do inte nd to use this service sparingly, and only when time-sensitive communication is essential. We encourage all members to remain subscribed. If we don’t have a current mobile phone number, please contact [email protected] to update your information. Rest assured that traditional methods of communication still exist, too. If you like your hard copy Digest, we’ll still deliver it. Our website (kica.us) is still a repository for information, forms and news. If you want to meet with the board or staff face to face, come to one of our regular board meetings, open houses, or other special meetings throughout the year. If you have questions and want to actually talk to someone, stop by our office (23 Beachwalker Drive) or give us a call locally at 843-768-9194 and toll-free at 866-226-1770. We always welcome your feedback. The proliferation of smart phones and tablets has no doubt fueled the explosive growth in social media and text messaging. With so much information in the palm of your hand, smart phone users are checking their various communication channels many more times per day compared to the “old days” when they had to log in to a computer, ultimately changing the way we communicate. To make sure we are keeping up with these changes and getting information As we continue to enhance communication methods, we want to hear from you about how you use technology, what features you might like to see going forward, and we’re happy to give you more information about how to use them ([email protected]).
