We are thrilled to share a story that we can all relate to after last winter’s surprise. Image and Story Contributed by Denise Petersen “None of us could have imagined how a palm leaf would crack and break in half upon a simple touch.” My story is simple but quite memorable! I spent my first Christmas on Kiawah with my family and continued to celebrate with a New Year’s Eve party at my new home. I had family and friends come in for the celebration, as well as welcoming my new friends on the island. All was going merrily along and we were due to head back when we got word flights were being canceled as the South was getting hit with the worst ice storm! None of us could have imagined how a palm leaf would crack and break in half upon a simple touch. It was a winter wonderland of a new magnitude. We had never seen sand covered in snow nor chaise lounges with a white blanket of snow on them instead of colorful towels. We all have fond memories of laughing and getting to know each other a little better. What a way to welcome in the new year! We can’t wait to see what this year brings!
