In addition to its normal array of programs KC recently launched American Veterans of the Sea Islands (AVSI). This program was created as a way to recognize veterans from Johns and Wadmalaw islands and provide them with an opportunity to soci alize and support each other. As its first major program, AVSI hosted a group of veterans in the St. Johns High School homecoming parade (pictured right). Afterwards, the vets enjoyed a pregame BBQ tailgate for the vets, followed by tickets to the homecoming football game, where they were honored during the pregame activities. Future programs include a harbor sail generously hosted by Veterans on Deck, and events with Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding's Horses for Heroes program. Upcoming Programs Wine Tasting Fundraiser for Owl Pack Program Kiawah Giving Tree Dec. 3 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Kiawah Women's Group is hosting a wine tasting at the Sandcastle to raise funds so that the Owl Pack program can continue into the next semester. Grab a date and savor any or all of the six carefully selected wines from the Wine Cellar Wine and Gifts while enjoying holiday entertainment by the Island Choraliers. You will be able to buy bottles of the wines included in the tasting. Tickets for the tasting are $25 per person and are on sale at the Sandcastle. The event is expected to sell out so be sure to get yours early. Now through Dec. 18 KC is coordinating a Kiawah Giving Tree for elementary school children around the Sea Islands. This is a wonderful chance to give a child a gift and brighten their holiday. Contact KC to be matched with a child (you'll learn the age and gender). You may drop off a wrapped gift to the KICA Administration offices (23 Beachwalker Dr.) by Dec. 18. Gifts will be delivered to the child before the holiday break. If you have already adopted an Angel Oak Owl, and would like to sponsor your own owl's gift, please notify KC.
