Special Appeal - Support Sea Island Students

Show your support for local students and schools by making a contribution of $ 100 to the Kiawah Cares Foundation .
Kiawah Cares strives to make literacy programs and enrichment opportunities available to all island students , while meeting student-specific needs . Over the course of the year , the Kiawah Cares Foundation helps students facing many different kinds of hardship .
Andrew is a hard-working student at Haut Gap Middle School . When his family lost their home in a fire , his clothes were among the things destroyed and Andrew came to school wearing the same uniform each day . Though he kept up with his work , he was teased for his lack of clothing . Andrew ’ s Communities In Schools ( CIS ) student support specialist reached out and his need was met through a partnership with Kiawah Cares and Hands of Christ . Andrew wrote later that the teasing had stopped and his teacher commented that “ he is so much more happy and confident that before .”
Devon is a student at Angel Oak Elementary , who wasn ’ t able to focus on her work because she didn ’ t have the glasses she needed . After a request from her CIS student support specialist , Kiawah Cares provided the much-needed eye wear . Being able to see made a world of difference in her schoolwork . Devon ’ s specialist wrote back that , “ since she can read the texts now , her understanding and comprehension have improved . She is making so much progress now that she has her glasses and we are very thankful .”
While it ’ s hard for many of us to comprehend , many Sea Island students are attending school without the most basic learning necessities . When you give $ 100 toward this special appeal , you help support children like Devon and Andrew , whose needs might otherwise go unmet .
