Activity 1: Body-map activity (30 minutes) During the body-map activity, every mother will receive large pieces of white paper. The pieces will be joined together by masking tape to make the paper large enough to copy the whole child's figure on the paper. Crayons, pencils or Kokis can be used to draw the child on the paper. The mothers have 30 minutes for the activity. Before drawing and during the drawing activity, the mother has to explain to the child what she is going to do. After drawing the outlines, she and her child must discuss the drawing and decide which parts (for example ears, eyes, nose, etc.) still need to be filled in. The body maps will be kept in safe keeping for Session 19. Explanation to the child by the mother: Explain to the child that a mother knows her child better than anyone else in the world and that the she is going to draw him or her on the paper. They are going to draw a big picture together. First, the mother will copy the child on the big white paper, and then they will discuss it to figure out what still needs to be drawn on the body map. Explain the puppet-sock activity to the mothers. Activity 2: Puppet socks (30 minutes) During this activity, every child and mother receives a white sock. The mothers and children must decorate their socks. They could add eyes, a mouth, ears, a nose, eyebrows, etc., to their socks. The mother-child pair should discuss beforehand how they will go about decorating their socks. Help may be given to each other. After making their puppets, every child-mother pair is given the following instructions: - Switch roles. The mother's puppet acts like her child, and the child's puppet acts like his or her mother. The mother must focus on her child's strong points and things she noticed in her child when doing the activity. For example, certain words she or he uses, ways of talking, things she or he likes, etc. Child Group - Climbing down the Tree exercise - Feeling thermometer - Explain the activities (body mapping and puppet socks) in the joint session and the fun element behind it. Allow time for questions. JOINT SESSION Activity 1: Body mapping (30 minutes) Give every mother-child pair pieces of flip-board pages. Tape the pieces together so that the child can fit on the page. Give the mothers crayons, pencils or Kokis to choose from and then asked them to copy their children on the pieces of paper. Remind the mothers to explain every step of the body mapping to their children. After copying their child on the paper, they have to discuss with their child what still needs to be drawn on the body map (for example ears, nose, mouth, dress).
