Session 12 SESSION 12: SURVIVAL SKILLS 'LOOK AND LEARN' OBJECTIVES The following objectives are set for Session 12: At the end of the session the children should be able to - identify and discuss the primary tasks that need to be completed in the home environment; - identify who takes responsibility for each different task; - identify reasons why the tasks are important: "What would happen if no one did this (e.g., washed socks, cooked food)?" - establish the link that doing the tasks shows love and support within the family - everyone participates and works together; - show how they learn how to complete tasks? Who teaches you?; and - demonstrate in small groups how to complete household chores (e.g., "I wash socks like this" in a demonstration). SESSION 12: PROGRAMME - Welcome - The feeling thermometer - Climbing down the Tree exercise - On a ship - ice-breaker - Discussion - Break - Activity 1 - Showing a specific skill - Activity 2 - "What if?" game - Ending: What was today about? - Climbing up the Tree exercise PREPARATION - Attentively read through the exercise. - Prepare for discussion. - Take yourself mentally through the process of the type of questions that can be raised and reflect on how to facilitate the group so that the core concepts can be addressed. - Reflect on session 11 and the issues the children discussed or that you picked up on in terms of children's emotions and needs.
