ACTIVITY 1: WHAT AM I DOING? Activity 1 - What am I doing? - The aim of the exercise is about empathising, thinking you are in the position of somebody else, expressing and listening, - Let the group sit in the room facing an area that will be the 'stage' - First ask a volunteer to take one card from a bag and to mime its content. - The others have to guess what they are miming (acting). - The person who guesses correctly can have the next turn, but make sure that everyone gets a chance to play. - If some cards are too difficult to mime, give the child the choice of either having a helper or choosing another card. observing. ACTIVITY 2- PUPPETS Activity 2 - Puppets - Organise a puppet stage, something for the children to hide behind while doing the puppet play. This will help them to play uninhibited without feeling that they themselves are being watched. - The children can pair up and act out a scene. After each scene the pairs can change. Children can volunteer or they can pass. All the children first have to practise before acting out the scene. - The situations (scenarios) must be written on cards and can then be drawn from a bowl. - Note to facilitator: By joining in as a leader, you can simply emphasise the important story lines by repeating the specific play. You can then sometimes introduce a better (healthier) ending to the same story. In this way you do not have to interpret or discuss the story. Scenarios: - Make a friend - Have an argument - Sing a song - Say you are sorry - Make a telephone call - Silence in the class 136 Children The KGOLO-MMOGO PROJECT
