CORE CONCEPTS The following are core concepts that should be addressed during this session: - Learn to identify others' emotions. - Identify the various people you could discuss your feelings with (e.g. family, friends, teachers, etc.). - Discuss the ways of responding to others' emotions and ways of coping. OUTLINE OF THE SESSION - Welcome - The feeling thermometer - Climbing down the Tree exercise - Ice-breaker: Broken telephone ICE-BREAKER Broken telephone Aim: Listening Skills Materials needed: None Time: +- 10 min Activity - The facilitator tells a short story to one of the children and asks the child to pass it on to the next child, and the message is passed on until it reaches the last child. - The last child must say what he or she heard. - The facilitator should then say what the original message was. - The children can then volunteer to send a message around. - At end of the ice-breaker, the facilitator should emphasise how important it is to listen to others.
