istening to Li Jiasheng speak is like witnessing the characters of some of
the best-known Chinese classics – Sorrow of Separation (Li Sao), Man
Jiang Hong (Yue Fei) or Records of the Grand Historian (Sima Qian) – come
to life. Li Jiasheng’s understanding of and passion for Chinese cultures has
been, and continues to be, his life. Already in his sixties, Mr. Li, a former
special-grade Chinese teacher at the prestigious Beijing No.4 High School
(1993-2010), and a recipient of the coveted State Council Allowance, is still
