Interview with Dr. Chang Ji-Mei,
Professor, Department of Special Education
San Jose State University, U.S.
L
anguage is the soul of every individual, a window into every society, and a roadmap
to our understanding of the world we live in, and the world that makes each of
us who we are. But is one language sufficient to make sense of such a vast diversity?
Perhaps not, and as the Austrian philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, said, “The limits
of my language mean the limits of my world.” At Keystone, these limits are pushed
everyday in a bilingual and bicultural environment. Educator, teacher and scholar
in the field of cross-language research, Dr. Chang Ji-Mei, spent time with Keystone
Academy last academic year training teachers, and talking to parents about bilingual
immersion. She also spoke to The Keystone Magazine about the benefits and beauty of
bilingual immersion.
