The Monkey Temple is on a small mountain in the middle of the Kathmandu Valley. Legend has it that the capital city was a giant lake, and a monk threw some lotus seeds into the lake. Soon the lotus grew into a mountain with a bright object at its peak. Many monks from around the world came to visit the mountain. When Bodhisattva Manjushri came, he built a space at the top of the mountain so people could visit easily. After that, local 14 The Keystone Magazine residents built a temple to protect the space.
