B oard S potlight B everly D ixon Where are you from, and what schools did you attend? I am originally from Norman, Oklahoma. I attended Eisenhower Elementary, Irving Middle School, Central Mid-High, and Norman High School. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from North Carolina State University with a degree in Natural Resources and a Marine and Coastal concentration. I also attended multiple Navy and multi-service schools. What was your favorite subject in school? English and Science As a kid, who was your role model? My grandmother, Doris Thrower; and Jane Goodall, the famous primatologist and anthropologist. What is one quote or saying that you live by? “You can’t control other’s actions, only your reactions to them.” Describe your perfect afternoon. A quiet afternoon with my family on a beach, reading a book, and playing in the water; or watching the Oklahoma Sooners win another football game!   Where is the best place you have traveled to and why? It’s a tie. I loved Ireland. My mother’s family is Irish, and we spent nine days traveling the country. The island is beautiful, and the people were kind, friendly and hospitable. My second favorite is 8 Placencia, Belize. It’s a small village on a peninsula with clear, beautiful water perfect for snorkeling in a very laid-back environment. What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done? Cliff-diving in Gaeta, Italy What makes you passionate about Keller ISD? Absolutely the people! From the kindergartners to our employees, I love meeting new people and listening to their stories. Their excitement to come to work and school make it an amazing community that I love. Why did you want to serve on the KISD Board of Trustees? Since retiring from the military, I have discovered a new passion - public education. From PTAs and subbing in classrooms, to serving on various district committees, I have come to love the community of Keller ISD. Communities must have engaged members to continue to flourish. I want to engage - and be engaged - and being part of the Board allows me that opportunity. If you could offer one piece of advice to the students of Keller ISD, what would it be?   Just be you. Embrace who you are, what makes you different and your dreams. Enjoy every opportunity you can while in school and be a part of your community. Listen and learn from those around you. Most importantly, realize this is just the first chapter of the story of your life - it’s going to be amazing!
