Undergraduate Prospectus 2017
What type of
degree should
you choose?
It’s your life and your career, so we think you should
be able to explore your interests and shape your
studies as flexibly as possible. At Keele, you can
pick more than one subject – and you can choose
how you study your subjects. Here are your options:
Dual honours
Dual honours means you’ll study two
degree subjects, in equal amounts,
over three years. It’s a great way to
pursue an extra interest, broaden
your skills and enhance your career
prospects. You’ll get the same depth
of knowledge in each subject as you
would in a single honours degree.
There are over 600 possible
combinations to choose from, letting
you shape your degree around the
things which interest you most. You
might pick one academic subject
and one which is more vocational,
two similar subjects, or two which
are completely different. You’ll
also have the opportunity to take
modules outside of your main degree
subjects, broadening your studies
and opportunities even further.
Major-minor degrees
Major-minor degrees are like dual
honours degrees, except you’ll
specialise in the major subject
and only study your minor subject
in your first and second years.
Single honours
Our single honours and professional
training degrees bring together a
number of subject areas. So while
they let you specialise, they’re far
from one-dimensional. For example,
Business Economics combines
management, economics and
finance, while American Studies
covers politics, literature, history
and sociology.
Integrated master’s degrees
You can decide in advance to add
an extra year at the end, so you’ll
graduate after four years with a
master’s degree. The first three years
of study are usually exactly the same
as a bachelor’s degree, but your final
year is studied at master’s level.
Degrees awarded
You’ll graduate as a Bachelor of
Arts with Honours, or BA (Hons),
if your two principal courses are in
humanities and/or social sciences
subjects. If you study at least one
science subject, you’ll graduate as
a Bachelor of Science with Honours,
or BSc (Hons).
