Societies

Joining a society is a great way to meet new people
and have fun. Societies are student-run groups based
around a shared interest – a subject, course, leisure
activity, or political or religious belief. We’ve got over
100 of them, from Drama and Bhangra to Sci-Fi and
Poker. Each ‘soc’ has a student executive committee,
so getting involved will develop your leadership and
communication skills.

Volunteering

Volunteering is rewarding in so many ways. It gives
you a different perspective on life while offering a
release from studying. You’ll meet new people and
develop valuable skills to go on your CV. You can even
gain awards and have your volunteering recorded on
your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).
Plus, Keele offers a volunteering elective worth 15 credits
towards your degree.

KeeleSU offers a full range of services including a great
shop, a print and copy shop, regular careers and jobs
fairs, and an advice centre called ASK (see page 32).

Management

KeeleSU is run by students for students, and is
governed by five full-time elected officers alongside
a permanent, professional staff. It’s easy to get
involved through forums, the committee and the
student council. General meetings offer every student
the chance to have their say
