Undergraduate Prospectus 2017 Important Information This prospectus is correct at the time of going to print. Given the passage of time, however, between publication and the academic year to which it relates, some of the information may change. It is very important therefore that you check the university’s website www.keele.ac.uk before making an application to the university, as some details relating to the course and the status of any validation process, the fees and other costs, as well as related services, may have been updated. The university will do all that it reasonably can to provide educational services as described in the prospectus, on the website, or in other documents issued by it, to appropriately enrolled students. Sometimes circumstances beyond the control of the university mean that it cannot provide the educational services described. Examples of such circumstances include: (a) the unanticipated departure of key members of university staff (b) power failure (c) damage to buildings or equipment (d) the demands of the timetable and the availability of academic staff in respect of possible optional subjects (e) where the numbers recruited to a course are so low that it is not possible to deliver an appropriate quality of education for students enrolled on it If the university changes your course and you are not satisfied with the changes, you will be offered the opportunity to withdraw from the programme and, if required, reasonable support to transfer to another provider. Equality and Diversity Strategy The Keele University Equality and Diversity Strategy sets out that no student will receive less favourable treatment because of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, sex, gender reassignment, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, religion, political belief, socioeconomic background, parental status, age or trade union membership. The university is committed to a programme of action to ensure that this policy is fully effective. For further information on this policy please contact: Directorate of Human Resources T. 01782 734403 www.keele.ac.uk/hrss/equalitydiversity We always try to take account of individual needs and will do our best to give you the information you need in a way that is easy for you to understand. If you require this document in an alternative format then please contact: (f) the acts of any governmental or local authority Directorate of Marketing and Communications T. 01782 733577 www.keele.ac.uk/marketingsupport (g) acts of terrorism University regulations (h) industrial action by university staff or third parties In these circumstances, the university will take all reasonable steps to minimise the resultant disruption to those services and to those students who are affected it by, for example, offering those students the opportunity where reasonably possible to move to another course, another institution or by delivering a modified version of the same course, but to the full extent that is possible under the general law, the university excludes liability for any loss and/or damage suffered by any applicant or student as a result of those circumstances. The university will use all reasonable endeavours to deliver the course in accordance with the description applied to it in the university’s prospectus (as updated from time to time on the website or elsewhere) for the academic year in which you begin the course. However, the university will be entitled to make reasonable changes to the course (including to the content and syllabus of the course where developments in the subject area and/or accrediting bodies make that necessary, or to the location of the course or the method of delivery or assessment of the course) where that will enable the university to deliver a better quality of educational experience to students enrolled on the course. In making any such changes, the university will aim to keep the changes to the minimum necessary to achieve the required quality of experience and will notify and consult with affected students in advance about any changes that are required. 2 Book an Open day keele.ac.uk/smartminds If you accept a place in the University, you are giving an undertaking to abide by the rules and regulations in force, both academic and disciplinary. It is your responsibility to make yourself familiar with these rules and regulations, and to understand that any breaches may lead to disciplinary action. Full details are sent to all new students and can also be viewed at www.keele.ac.uk/paa/governance Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) In common with all universities in the UK, Keele will send some of the information we hold about our students to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). This forms your HESA record, which contains details of ethnic group and any disabilities. HESA will pass these records, or parts of them, to various government organisations that need it to carry out their statutory functions connected with funding higher education. HESA and the organisations listed above will use the information mainly to produce statistics. Student records will not be used in a way that could affect anyone personally and the organisations will take precautions to reduce the risk of a student being identified from the information once it is published and released.
