General Foundation Year
Key Information
Why study this course?
The General Foundation Year is a stand-alone course which can be
studied full-time over one year, part-time over two years or as bite-size
packages. During the year, students may apply through UCAS for a
place on a Keele degree (with the exceptions of Medicine, Physiotherapy
and Social Work). However, the independent nature of the General
Foundation Year also provides those wishing to continue in higher
education elsewhere with the freedom to apply to a university of
your choice.
Indicative modules
The programme comprises
a mixture of subject based
study and generic academic
development, individually tailored
to your aspirations and interests.
An extensive choice of optional
extra subjects such as Forensic
Science, Mandarin and Global
Politics is offered. The choice of
modules is made in consultation
with a Foundation Year tutor.

The course is what I was looking for
and not many universities provide
a foundation year that leads into
the pharmacy school. I have found
the course to be engaging and
challenging and at the same time
approachable and accessible in
equal measure. The analytical and
critical skills I have learnt will really
benefit me in any further academic
study. It has given me the right
attributes needed to go onto an
undergraduate degree and I am
glad I chose Keele University.
