Sociology and
Social Work
If you are curious about society or passionate
about improving the lives of others then choosing
a degree programme in Sociology or Social Work
could be for you.
Sociology at Keele combines leading research with lively and
accessible teaching, providing an innovative and imaginative
approach to this exciting subject. During your degree you might
explore social issues such as migration, globalisation, urban living,
inequalities, consumption, and parenting. You will study a range
of sociological theories and learn about the methods that
sociologists use in their research.
Social work engages with people and groups to address complex
life challenges and enhance wellbeing. The Social Work programme
is current, grounded in research and includes contributions from
social workers, other professions and service users. You’ll develop
both the understanding and skills to make a difference, gaining vital
experience to prepare you for a rewarding and challenging career.
Courses in these areas will help you develop strong research,
communications and critical evaluation skills. Sociology graduates
work in wide range of occupations in the private and public
sectors, including advertising and marketing, health and social care,
charitable organisations, youth services, and local government.
Social work graduates are eligible to apply to register as professional
social workers with the Health and Care Professions Council,
which will enable you to practice as a social worker in England
working with a wide range of people. A range of careers in health
and social care are possible.
