Undergraduate Prospectus 2017 | Medicine
Medicine
Medicine is a highly rewarding and challenging
career that has a huge impact on society
and makes a real difference to people’s lives.
Keele has a relatively small student intake,
an attractive campus, and a supportive
community with enthusiastic and committed
staff. In the last three National Student
Surveys we have been ranked in the top three
UK medical schools. In addition, our graduates
have scored highly in national surveys of their
preparedness to work as doctors in the NHS.
We offer an experience that is different from
most medicine schools.
Study Medicine at Keele and you’ll be thoroughly prepared for
a very diverse profession with an expanding range of career
options. You will have a strong grounding in the basic and
social sciences alongside a high level of patient contact in both
hospital and community settings. You will gain insight into the
health needs of our population, the needs of our patients and
their experiences of the NHS.
Keele offers state-of-the-art facilities, a variety of learning
methods, small tutor supported groups and substantial
student choice to explore personal interests and career
options, including the possibility of undertaking an intercalated
BSc or master’s degree. Clinical placements form a very
important part of the curriculum and you will experience a
range of placements across Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Medicine, Second year
Choose the medical course at Keele for its problem based learning.
There is a mix of lectures, group work, lab work, full body dissection
and placements early in the course. The full body dissection is
fascinating and an amazing anatomy learning experience, while the
placements put all the studying you do into perspective and makes
the course really interesting. The style of problem-based-learning
may seem strange and hard to start with, but I have learnt and
remembered so much more this year alone through applying my
knowledge in problem-based-learning (PBL) than I ever did during
my A-level years when I tried to learn the textbooks by heart.
