Skills and careers
All organisations, from private business to local government,
need to engage with environment and sustainability issues, hence
this is a growing area of employment opportunities. A degree in
Environment and Sustainability will prepare you for a broad range of
environment and non-environment related careers, including careers
in non-governmental organisations, charities, local and regional
government, environmental management and environmental
regulatory bodies and industry.
Work placements
As a core part of the second year you will take a work placement
module, undertaking a minimum two week placement working in
the environment and sustainability sector.
There is also the option of doing a four year degree, Environment
and Sustainability with work placement year, completing a minimum
six month placement between the second and final year.
You will be supported in developing effective professional practices
and in finding a suitable placement. Keele has an excellent
reputation of working with companies on sustainability issues, and
has a wide ranging sustainability professional network. Examples
of previously undertaken work placements include working:
with local councils and environmental consultancies; biodiversity
and conservation organisations; waste and water sectors; and
environmental education organisations.
