UNDERGRADUATE PROSPECTUS 2016
An international
study experience
Studying abroad is a step beyond the
ordinary “student experience”. Students
who study abroad on exchange get the
chance to live and study in a different
country and culture; it will change your
life, give depth to your understanding
of your field of study and enhance your
employment prospects.
Every year we send students to one of our 70
partner institutions. An exchange opportunity is
available for both single honours and dual honours
in most undergraduate programmes and is based
on universities where modules are taught in English.
Some single honours programmes allow you to
study for a full year at specific partner universities.
Being able to speak a foreign language is not a
requirement, although you may have the opportunity
to learn one where you study.
How does it work?
Studying abroad on second year exchange allows
you to swap a semester in your second year for a
semester studying at one of our partner universities
in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Europe,
Japan, Korea or Hong Kong (the countries available
depend on your degree subjects).
Costs
If you spend a semester abroad you will pay your
tuition fees to Keele for that time period, but you
do not pay any additional tuition fees to the partner
university. There may be additional costs while
studying on exchange for example flights, visa costs
and insurance, and some countries might also have
a higher cost of living. You may also want to take
the opportunity to travel around and explore. Keele
University offers bursaries to support students who
decide to go on exchange (see Page 37). Student
Finance* also supports eligible students through the
travel grant and increased maintenance grants and
loans. If you elect to study abroad in Europe, you will
be eligible for an ERASMUS+ grant to offset some of
these extra costs.
New opportunities
For some students, the opportunity to go on
exchange will also be available after the second
year. Students will complete two years of their
Keele degree and then have the opportunity to go
on exchange for a full year studying modules that
will enhance their Keele degree and add to their
personal development. Students would then
return to Keele University to complete their
degree. We are continuously adding to the list
of programmes which have this option, please
check www.keele.ac.uk/international for the
most up to date opportunities.
