NATURAL SCIENCES Environmental Science Overview New for 2015/16* the BSc Environmental Science programme at Keele provides you with the scientific skills and in depth expertise required to tackle many of the world’s major environmental (and societal) problems such as climate change, food security, water resources, pollution and conservation. The course is interdisciplinary and draws on the expertise of scientists within the disciplines of life sciences, chemical sciences and geosciences to emphasise the role and importance of scientific understanding and practical skills in the analysis and management of environmental problems. No previous knowledge of environmental science is required and we also consider applications from students who have not taken a science subject at A-level. There are excellent opportunities within the degree programme for you to engage with environmental professionals and to undertake environmentally focused work placements. A degree in Environmental Science will prepare you for a broad range of exciting career options including conservation, environmental consultancy and environmental management, and in environmental regulatory bodies and industry. Greening Business: Employability and Sustainability: The ‘Greening Business’ module explores the environmental and sustainability responsibilities of businesses in order to develop your skills and understanding in driving sustainability improvements in organisations. Second year In the second year, you will develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and of the analytical and investigative skills demanded of today’s environmental scientists. Core modules include: • Human Impacts on the Environment • Sustainable Chemistry *Subject to final approval by the university • Environmental Analytical Methods Course content • Integrated Environmental Field Studies First year The first year provides you with a sound basis and understanding of the core sciences underpinning the field of environmental science and of the environmental issues faced by the world today. In addition to the six core modules, you will choose two elective modules which can include a modern language.
