Living costs will be largely dependent on your own
lifestyle. However, the table gives a good indication
of the amount of funds likely to be needed when
studying at Keele. You will need to demonstrate to
the UK Home Office when you apply for your student
visa that you have a minimum of £820 per month
(for a 9 month period £7380) in order to be eligible
for the Tier 4 visa. *Figures are correct as of time of
printing and can change, you will need to refer to
www.keele.ac.uk/visa for immigration advice and full
details on how to apply.
You will also need approximately £250 for books.
Those not familiar with colder climates should allow
for an additional amount in the first year to buy
warm clothing.
Deposits
All self-funding applicants, who wish to take up their
place will be required to pay a £2,000 tuition fee
deposit. The deposit will be used towards the first
instalment of your tuition fees.
You will be required to pay a deposit if you
are a self-funding student who has either:
a) been issued with an unconditional offer
and wish to accept this offer
or
b) been issued with a conditional offer, which
you have accepted and achieved the conditions
of the offer.
A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies)
will only be issued by the University once the
£2000 deposit payment has cleared in the
University’s bank account. The amount of tuition
fees paid to the University will show on the students
CAS statement, if an additional payment is made we
suggest that you ensure this is reflected on the CAS
before a Visa application is submitted. The UK Home
Office has indicated that payment of tuition fees
can substantially support your visa application.
If you are in receipt of a full scholarship you must
send us evidence of this as soon as you are able.
A CAS number will not be issued until we receive
this evidence.
Student visas
If you have indefinite leave to remain in the UK,
the right of abode or other immigration status
which does not have any restrictions or time limit
on your stay in the UK, then you can travel to the UK
for study at any time. If you do not have this status,
you will have to apply for entry clearance (a ‘visa’)
that permits study in the UK. To obtain a visa, Keele
must provide you with a reference number known
as a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS);
this is issued by the UK Home Office.

You must ensure that you have sufficient funds to
cover both your tuition fees and maintenance costs.
Please note that tuition and accommodation fees are
usually subject to a small annual increase.
Following your offer, meeting any conditions
attached to it if appropriate and payment of your
deposit; we will send you a ‘CAS Checklist’ email
which confirms your course, payment and personal
details. You will need to check this and confirm the
information is correct by returning it to University
to release your CAS number.
We will then issue you with a unique CAS number
which you will need to use to make your Visa
application. You will also be required to provide
the information stated on your CAS and evidence
that you have sufficient funds to cover your studies.
The process of applying for a visa can take quite
a few weeks, so the earlier you can make your
application to Keele for a place on a course, the
earlier we can process your application and provide
you with all the necessary paperwork. However,
we cannot issue a CAS more than three months
prior to the start of your degree course.
Please note that a condition of your student visa is
that you can show that you have sufficient funds
