Instrumental lessons
Instrumental or singing lessons are available to
you during the first year, while all students taking
recital electives also receive lessons in subsequent
years. Most lessons are given at Keele by visiting
instrumental and vocal teachers.

Second year
In the second year your choice of elective modules
will determine your study pathways in, for example,
performance, composition, record production or
sound design.
Interactions between the two subjects include:
First year
You will study core and elective modules designed
to equip you with knowledge and expertise in a
broad range of music and technology topics. You will
develop your analytical, practical and scholarly skills,
as well as your theoretical knowledge of acoustics
and practical audio technologies. Core modules are
Active Listening, Audio Fundamentals, Sonic Arts
Repertoire, 20th Century Musics and Composing
with Sound.

Third year
You will take two independent projects focusing on
the type of music or creative digital arts in which
you are most interested, under the guidance of
a specialist supervisor. Examples of independent
projects are:

• Performance (recital)
• Musicology (dissertation)
You can also select from a wide range of elective
modules including:

Facilities
You will work in the Clockhouse, a charming 19th
century building situated in a scenic part of campus.
Facilities include six designated studios, lecture
rooms with superb audio-visual aids, performance
spaces, purpose built practice rooms and a
multi-speaker system for audio-visual concerts and
