HUMANITIES
Media, Communications
and Culture and Film Studies
Overview
Media and Film studies are the study of
communication which, in various forms, has
become central to every aspect of our lives.
These subjects work together to provide you
with a critical understanding and skills to analyse
different media forms throughout history.
You will study a range of cultural forms such as
film, television, photography, advertisements,
magazines, digital media and news production.
As part of the programme, you will investigate the
way in which historical and cultural movements
developed and continue to influence media and film
production in the present. An in depth study of film
theory in areas such as narrative, genre, form, gender
and spectatorship, teaches you to think critically
about filmic texts as well as the national, social,
political and theoretical contexts in which films
are produced and received.
In this exciting and popular degree programme
you will get the opportunity to produce cultural
artefacts of your own through our series of practical
modules ranging from the art of photography, news
and production to producing video and magazines
online. We also provide opportunities to take work
placements through our links to the creative and
media industries.
