For most, the dissertation is the highlight of the degree course and inspires students to carry on to postgraduate research. Teaching and assessment First and second year teaching is based on a mixture of lectures and group teaching in seminars led by an academic staff tutor. Individual consultations and feedback sessions help you develop coursework and revision skills. Third year teaching consists almost exclusively of seminars, as well as individual supervision and workshops for dissertations. Assessment is by a combination of written examinations and continuous assessment, including coursework essays, portfolios, class participation and the dissertation. Skills and careers This programme is a gateway to a wide variety of future careers. Employers regard both subjects as evidence of an ability to think critically and to work independently, to make reasoned arguments, to collaborate with colleagues, to meet deadlines and to present information effectively. The careers record of Keele History and Politics graduates is excellent. Some of the common destinations include political research, think-tanks, journalism, education, management, the civil service, local government and the voluntary sector, as well as in the preservation, archival and museum sectors. Around a quarter of our graduates go on to take higher degrees with many choosing to stay at Keele.
