students please refer to page 81.
Deposits
All self-funding applicants, who wish to take up their
place, will be required to pay a £2,000 tuition fee
deposit. The deposit will be used towards the first
instalment of your tuition fees.
You will be required to pay a deposit if you are a
self-funding student who has either:
a) Been issued with an unconditional offer and wish
to accept this offer
Or
b) Been issued with a conditional offer, which
you have accepted and achieved the conditions
of the offer.
A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) will
only be issued by the university once the £2,000
deposit payment has cleared in the university’s bank
account. The amount of tuition fees paid to the
university will show on the students CAS statement,
if an additional payment is made we suggest that
you ensure this is reflected on the CAS before a
visa application is submitted. The UK Home Office
has indicated that payment of tuition fees can
substantially support your visa application.
If you are in receipt of a full scholarship you must
send us evidence of this as soon as you are able.
A CAS number will not be issued until we receive
this evidence.
Student visas
If you have unlimited leave to remain in the UK, a right
of abode or other immigration status which does not
have any restrictions or time limit on your stay in the
UK (such as British Nationals Overseas passport), then
you can travel to the UK for study at any time. If you
do not have this status, you will have to apply for entry
clearance (a visa) to study in the UK. To obtain a visa
Keele must provide you with a serial number known as
a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS); this is
issued by the UK Home Office.
Following your offer, meeting any conditions attached
to it if appropriate and payment of your deposit; we
will send you a ‘CAS Checklist’ email which confirms
your course, payment and personal details. You will
need to check this and confirm the information is
correct by returning it to the university to release
your CAS number.
The process of applying for a visa can take a few
weeks, so the earlier you can make your application
to Keele for a place on a course, the earlier we can
process your application and provide you with all
relevant paperwork. However, we cannot issue a
CAS more than three months prior to the start date
of your course.
Please note that a condition of your student visa is
that you can show that you have sufficient funds
available to you to cover the full cost of your studies
in the UK. Currently you will have to show bank
statements with a minimum of £820 per month
plus the total tuition fee for one year of your course
(minus the £2,000 deposit). The tuition fee will be
in your letter of offer.
You will need to demonstrate to the UK Home
Office when you apply for your student visa that
you have a minimum of £820 per month (for a 9
month period £7,380) in order to be eligible for
the Tier 4 visa. Figures are correct as of time of
printing and can change; you will need to refer
to www.keele.ac.uk/visa for immigration advice
and full details on how to apply.

Employment
We know that you might want to work whilst you are
studying, but there are just a few legal requirements
that you need to observe. International full-time
students can take up part-time paid work whilst
studying in the UK, for up to 20 hours per week.
If you are married and your spouse is with you in
the UK, your spouse is also allowed to work, provided
that you are enrolled on a course that lasts for at
least 12 months (for example a master’s or PhD
programme). There are a number of part-time jobs
available on campus, particularly in our catering
outlets, and various opportunities in local businesses.
The university has a ‘job shop’ which helps students
find work. Please remember, however, that you
must not allow paid work to interfere with your
academic studies.
Overseas representatives
Keele works with a number of overseas
representatives or agents who are based in countries
including Brunei, China, the Gulf States, Hong Kong,
India, Kenya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Colombia, Mexico,
Nigeria, Taiwan and Vietnam. We select our agents
carefully, and keep in contact with them regularly
and send staff over to their offices several times a
year. Many of our agents have staff who have visited
Keele, so they have seen our campus and facilities,
and have first-hand knowledge about the facilities
and the university.
These representatives can advise you on courses at
Keele and help you with your application for Keele
and for a visa. Of course, you do not have to apply
to Keele through an agent – you can make an
independent application and all applications are
given the same consideration.

We will then issue you with a unique CAS number
which you will need to use to make your visa
application. You will also be required to provide the
information stated on your CAS and evidence that
you have sufficient funds to cover you studies.
